Popularly known as the Long hair or the Persian long hair, this variety of cats is one of the oldest kind among all feline species. These cats are originally from the ancient land of Persia. Found between the Hindukush Mountain Range and the ancient lands of Mesopotamia, Persian cats usually have long fluffy tails and a really cute face. The true origin of the Persian is unclear as it is popularly believed that this species is a product of interbreeding between British domestic long hairs and the Angoras.

The foreshortened muzzled ears set far apart from another will tell you at the very first go, that the variety is Persian. They are naturally blessed with a long thick coat of soft and flowing fleece. This helps them to survive in the coldest regions of the world with utmost ease. A pair of short legs and a wide head are some of the other characteristics of Persian. On the basis of their fleece color the name of the Persian is decided. The tipped varieties of Persian are popularly known as Chinchilla and the pointed varieties are know as Himalayan or Color point Persian. Besides, Persian can also come in a variety of hues. Blue, white, jet black, tortoiseshell, tabby and cream are some of the many shades of Persian. Although many an interbreeding and experimentation have been conducted with the Persian it has only added more variety to the family. Today, Chinchilla Silvers, Chinchilla Golf dens, Shaded Goldens, Shaded Silvers, Blue Point Persian, Red White bi color Persian, Ivory white Persian, Jet black Persian and Calico are all under the same breed of Persian.
Minor differences exist between all these varieties. For example difference in pigmentation, length of hair, thickness of fleece are some of the major variety of Persian breed. Regular grooming and care is necessary for all varieties of Persian. For their fur is too long and requires continuous attention. Do apply anti lice lotions and other medication to protect your Persian from a severe attack of termites and other skin disease. Regular brushing and bathing of the Persian is an integral part of keeping a Persian at home. Many of the Persian suffer from poor eyesight. With their long fleece spread all over them eyesight may face a hindrance from these fur as well. Always keep a careful watch on their eye sight. Another important fact about Persian is the attack of genetic diseases. It has been seen that most of the Persian suffer from chronic kidney failure. However, with improved technology today you can test the DNA of the cat before making it your pet. In order to prevent the spread of such diseases like Polycistic Kidney many a breeders are deliberately removing these Persian cats from the gene pool.
Known for their sweet and calm nature Persian are a favorite in many a household. Children too are quite fond of this variety as Persian is a great playmate. A Persian will participate in all kinds of exciting sports beginning from foot ball to running around the children through out the day.
