Boxer

If ferocity and strength is your choice, then Boxer is the ideal dog for you. Boxer is a breed of short-haired, medium-sized and stocky dog. With strong jaws Boxers are good hunter dogs. Boxer was bred in Germany from the Bullenbeisser, Bulldog and belongs to the Molloser group.

Boxer has smooth coat, which is brindled or fawn. There can be white markings on the coat. The muzzle of Boxer dog is square and the dog is brachycephalic and Boxer has mandibular prognathism.

In 1895, at a dog show at Munich, which was for St Bernards, Boxer was first showed. In 1896, the first Boxer club was established. Boxers are quite popular breed of dog in USA.

The most distinctive feature of Boxer is the head. The standard of the breed dictates that the head should be perfect in proportion to the body and the ehad of Boxer can’t be too light. Boxers are short haired and the smooth and shiny coat of the dog is tight to the body. Brindle and fawn are the common colors of a Boxer. Often, there are white markings on the feet and underbelly of Boxer. Flash or the white markings can be found also on face or neck. The boxer, which has such markings or flashes are known as “Flashy.” The word “Brindle” refers to dogs that have black stripes on the background of fawn and the background; the fawn color must be seen through the brindles. The Boxer dog does not have the gene for a solid black color of the coat. So there are no Bopxer , which is purebred and black fully. By fawn, wide range of colors are denoted like dark honey-blonde, stag or deer red, mahogany, reddish tan, light yellow or tan and other colors. The Boxers, which has white markings covering almost one-third of the coat are known as “white boxers” in conventional terms. These Boxers are not rare and not albino. The percentage of born white boxers is 20 to 25%. These dogs are either brindle or fawn but the white markings on their bodies are excessive, which overlies the base color. White Boxers are more prone to skin cancers and sunburn. You cannot show a white Boxer in a dog show as breed standard. White Boxers can compete in some events, which are non-conforming like agility and obedience. The weight of an adult boxer is between 55 and 70 lbs. The height of adult male boxers is ranging from 23 inches to 25 inches. Adult female boxers are 21 to 23 and ½ inches tall.

About the temperament of Boxer and excerpt from the 1938 AKC Boxer Breed Standard can be quoted. It says that Boxers are renowned for faithfulness and love for the household and the master. Boxer distrusts strangers but never cause any harm to the family. Boxers are friendly and bright in temperament. Boxers are determined and brave.
