Two varieties of Chihuahua are recognized by The American Kennel Club, the smooth coat and the long coat. The standard color of Chihuahua is by The AKC Chihuahua standard “Any color- solid, marked or splashed.” Thus several colors come under the standard ranging from solid whites to solid blacks. Chihuahua comes in a variety of patterns and colors and is often spotted. Some of the common Chihuahua colors are Black, Blue, Chocolate, Cream, Red and Fawn. The patterns, without and with white markings are mainly tan points, merle, masks, brindle, extreme white spotting, piebald spotting, Irish spotting and sable.
Chihuahua is famous in the world for its size. The common size descriptions of Chihuahuas are “standard”, “miniature”, “tiny toy”, “pocket size” and “teacup.”
Chihuahua has two types of hair short-haired, also known as smooth coat and long-haired. Both the hair types belong to the same breed genetically and often belong to the same litter. However, they are judged separately in separate categories in different kennel clubs. The short hair of Chihuahua can have whiskery feel to velvety touch feeling. Chihuahuas that have long hairs are smoother to touch having a downy undercoat, fine guard and soft hairs. Long haired s has a fluffy appearance. Long haired Chihuahuas do not require trimming and you can keep them well with least grooming. Long haired dogs shed less hair than short-haired dogs.
Chihuahua has a good personality, ferocity and devotion. These dogs are of curious nature and very adaptable, adapting themselves to various environments. These dogs are good for small apartments in the city. Often people accuses Chihuahuas to be high strung, but with a little care, socialization and training Chihuahuas can be very good companions.
If you have small children in your home then do not keep a Chihuahua, because this dog are of a bit high temperament and has a tendency of biting when they get frightened. It is also the nature of the Chihuahuas to focus attention and devotion on one individual, which makes them jealous of different personal human relationships. The most interesting thing about Chihuahua is that they don’t seem to be aware of their size and bravely confront animals larger to them.
There are several health issues for the breed of Chihuahua. Particular care is needed for their teeth and special attention should be given to their birth process. Often genetic anomalies like neurological diseases affect Chihuahuas. Seizure and epilepsy disorders are common in Chihuahuas.
