Parrot

Any bird lover will tell you as to why the Parrot is one of the most favorite of all the pet birds. With nearly 350 species of Parrot spread across the world. These birds thrive ideally in all the tropical countries. Warm and humid summers where days are always longer than nights are the ideal places for the Parrot. The greater family of the Parrot also includes cockatoos and Macaos. While Cockatoos can come in a host of colors. Purple, green, royal blue and red mingle into one another to give the Macaos a regal look. An ordinary Parrot on the other hand is usually green in color. Interbreeding of the Parrot within the family however has given rise to bi colored parrots.

An important characteristic of the Parrot is that they are usually mono morphic. Some of the birds falling under the Parrot family are also minimally sexually dimorphic.

The one reason why a Parrot is a favorite among the kids is its ability to imitate human voice. A Parrot is blessed with a high degree of intelligence which allows them to remember a voice if heard more often. Many households in the tropical countries consider the Parrots as holy. However, continuous capturing of Parrots along with their selling have imposed a high degree of threat to their natural habitat. Many of the countries in the tropical region have banned the buying and selling of parrots in an attempt to protect the Species from further extinction. Since tropical region and the hardwood trees are the natural habitat of the Parrot they generally feed on fruits, nectar, nuts, seeds, buds and insects. Most of the Parrots prefer to live in groups. They flock around in groups too!

No recorded history is found about the origin of this bird. The wide diversity of the Parrot population which spreads from South America to Africa and the South Asia including parts of Australia have left biologists wondering about its origin. The slightly curved beak of the Parrot is one of the greatest examples of evolution of the species. This beak is not only sharp but very helpful in breaking the tough outer covering of nuts and berries available in the tropical forests.

Many of the Circus parties across the world ensure an entertaining show with the Parrot. Beginning from cycling on the rope to showing a host of tricks to the spectators a Parrot may be trained to perform a whole lot of tricks. Besides imitating human voice they are great as pet birds. Besides responding to the calls of the family members a Parrot also enjoys a fun ride on the swings. In case you plan to keep a Parrot as a pet go for a smart swing fixed inside the cage. You may leave your bird out in the open without any cage whatsoever. Parrots are very loyal as pets. Hence, expect your Parrot to come back to you after a hectic day at the sky. At night keep the bird in doors.
